Chimpanzees brutally attack U.S. student at Jane Goodall Institute, South Africa

A pair of chimpanzees has brutally attacked a U.S. student, who was studying them at the Jane Goodall Institute in South Africa.

It is difficult to brace oneself when animals turn violent and one such incident took place at an institute in South Africa. A pair of chimps turned violent and attacked a U.S. student, who was studying the chimpanzees there at the Jane Goodall Institute. The victim is now reported to be "fighting for his life."

According to reports, the identity of the victim is being kept confidential for the time being. What has been described regarding him is that he is a “young university student from the United States who had been observing the animals at the reserve for several weeks.” It is being speculated, however, that the name of the victim is Jeffrey Wicks.

The chimpanzee dragged the man out from under the fence and into their enclosure at the Jane Goodall Institute, Chimp Eden, which is located near Nelspruit.

"A ranger at a chimpanzee sanctuary near Nelspruit is fighting for his life after he was attacked by two frenzied animals while leading a tour group at the park this afternoon," a spokesman for a private ambulance firm reported. He added, "According to eyewitnesses, two chimpanzees grabbed the man by his feet and pulled him under the perimeter fence and into the enclosure."

According to reports, the victim of the chimp attack was leading a group of tourists when the attack happened. He reportedly did not do anything to anger the chimpanzees.

After the brutal attack took place, paramedics rushed to the scene. They had to use armed escorts to get in the chimpanzees' enclosure to treat the victim. After the victim was stablized at the scene, he was taken to a private hospital in Nelspruit and now he is struggling for his life. It is being reported that this is the first time ever that such an attack has taken place at the Jane Goodall Institute and it is indeed very tragic.

A representative from the Jane Goodall Institute said, according to a report by msn.com,"We understand that the gentleman is stable and we really feel for him. This has been very upsetting for everyone – it is just horrific. We are an organization that's respected worldwide for the work we do so anything like this is very bad."
